Here are a few examples of common twitter language:

Referencing a User: Means you're talking about them, or they're talking about you.

Hashtags: Helps organize Tweets into open categories.  Can be used to consciously group and tracking thoughts and ideas.

RT @yourname

Retweet: Sharing someone's tweet with your followers.  Like forwarding an email, but to broadcast to all your audience.
